Online Therapy & Counselling

books about trauma therapy and EMDR therapy

You’re coping. You always have. From the outside, your life may look stable, perhaps even successful. You meet deadlines, show up for others, and keep things moving. But underneath, there can be a different story unfolding. Maybe it’s a constant sense of alertness you can’t quite switch off, a tightness in your chest when things get overwhelming, or patterns in relationships that don’t feel entirely within your control.

Trauma doesn’t always announce itself in obvious ways. It can stem from a single distressing event or build gradually over time; through prolonged stress, difficult relationships, loss, or experiences where you didn’t feel safe, seen, or supported.

For many people, trauma becomes something you adapt your life around. You learn to function, to manage, to push through. But that doesn’t mean the impact disappears. It can show up as anxiety, irritability, low mood, emotional numbness, overthinking, or simply as a sense that you’re carrying more than you should have to (often without fully understanding why). If any of this resonates, then therapy might be something to consider as it enables you to create a space where those patterns can be understood, gently explored, and, over time, eased.

As a clinical psychologist, I’ve seen how powerful it can be when therapy fits around your life rather than disrupting it. For many people, attending in-person sessions can feel impractical and even impossible. Work schedules may be demanding. Family responsibilities can limit flexibility. Travelling to and from appointments and parking can add pressure to an already full week, especially if you’re already feeling anxious or overwhelmed.

This is one of the key advantages of online therapy with Dr Maria Tucknott and her team; you can access support from the privacy of your own home, without the added time, cost, and logistical effort of travelling to appointments.

Types of Online Therapy

My team and I can offer a wide range of different therapy approaches online, each offering unique ways to support your wellbeing:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT supports you in recognising patterns in thinking andbehaviour and offers practical ways torespond differently to difficulties. It is particularlyuseful for anxiety, low mood, stress, andadjusting unhelpful thought patterns.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR assists with processing distressing memories or experiences, reducing their emotional impact and helping you move forward with less burden from the past. It can be used to address trauma, anxiety, depression, and other experiences that continue to affect your daily life.

EMDR Intensives

These are concentrated sessions of EMDR therapy delivered over a shorter period. They provide an intensive focus for trauma work, suitable for those who want to address distressing experiences more quickly or in a more immersive format.

Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

CFT guides you to develop kindness toward yourself and others. It is particularly helpful if shame, self-criticism, or harsh self-judgement are affecting your confidence, mood, or ability to cope with challenges. The approach encourages a gentler relationship with your emotions and experiences.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS explores the different parts of your inner self, helping you understand internal conflicts and relate to yourself with greater compassion and clarity. It supports recognising the protective and wounded parts of your mind so you can work towards greater harmony within yourself.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT helps you live in line with your values while learning to accept thoughts and feelings that cannot be changed. It provides tools to respond to challenges without being overwhelmed by them and encourages taking meaningful actions that reflect what matters to you.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

IPT focuses on the connection between relationships and emotional wellbeing. It can help with grief, life transitions, interpersonal conflicts, and social challenges. Recognised by NICE for treating depression, IPT is also suitable for anxiety and trauma-related difficulties.
